Become A “Friend of Gaineswood”!
Presenting the check for $95,364 to AHC Executive Director Lee Warner (holding check) at an October 12 ceremony inside Gaineswood’s Dining Room were (L-R) Friends of Gaineswood Board members Kelley Barnes, John Northcutt, Willard McCall, Gwyn Turner, and Gus Weiss III.
In addition to funding preservation, the Friends have also utilized funds from memberships, donations, and investments to support research, interpretation, and special events and public programs at Gaineswood. Successes include:
¨ Research, interpretation and conservation of the Flutina [Barrel Organ] (link), and digitizing the Flutina’s music for resale and playback during tours
¨ Heritage Appreciation Days, co-hosted with Marengo County Historical Society (MCHS) to provide engaging educational programs for schools
¨ “A Candlelight Evening At Gaineswood,” also co-hosted with MCHS, offering entertainment and showcasing the home’s elegance at night, by candlelight
¨ Gaineswood Day, a relaxing, entertaining barbecue fundraiser held every spring to raise money and awareness of preservation needs
