WEB MESSAGING
(web-based e-mail)

Web messaging is an added convenience for our e-mail users . . . and it's FREE!  Rather than replacing the function of a standard mail client (program), it enhances email access by "web enabling" our Email Server.

Web Messaging benefit's include...

  • Accessing your email account from any browser connected to the World Wide Web.
  • Conveniently reading, sending, deleting, forwarding, replying to, and printing e-mail directly from your browser.
  • Being able to check and send personal email at work or a friend's house.
  • Family members who use the same computer can have separate email boxes with less hassle than a standard email client (program).
  • Being able to delete "hung" messages that are corrupted and won't download with your normal email client.
  • Enhancing standard e-mail messages with HTML-based, Web-style text and graphics.
  • Simply clicking to follow highlighted hyperlinks in e-mail messages.

Note:  When using Web Messaging, messages are not downloaded to the computer you are using.  They remain in your mailbox on the server until you delete them in Web Messaging or retrieve (download) them with a standard email client (program).

Using Web Messaging

After connecting to the Internet with Internet Explorer (or any other web-browsing program), go to our home page (www.westal.net).   Click on the yellow "Check Email" link.

At the yellow and white IMail WebMessaging logon page, enter your email account user name (eg. jdoe) and password, then click on the "Logon" button.  IMPORTANT:  Be sure NO capital letters are used when logging on, as this will keep you from successfully logging on.

The table on the page that comes up shows you how many messages are in your emailbox and how much server space those messages are using.

Use the various available buttons and/or links to read, send, delete, forward, etc. your email.

Messages may be printed just like you'd print any web page.

To view a list of all messages in your emailbox, click on "Summary" or "Mail Summary".  If you think your email is hung up on a particular message, you can delete the message you think is causing the problem by putting a checkmark next to the message, then clicking the "Delete" button at the bottom of the page.

Click "Logoff" to logout of your emailbox.

IMPORTANT:  If you decide to change your email password, keep in mind the following -

  1. The change affects ONLY your email password . . .  your Internet access password DOES NOT change.

  2. You will need to change the setting for your password in your regular email program.
